For the first time since Marketplace plans were available, a special enrollment period has been open to the public for insurers who are not able to receive insurance coverage through their employer or due to preexisting conditions.
That means that if you weren't able to enroll in healthcare insurance during the enrollment period last year, you are still able to get 2021 coverage!
Normally, the enrollment period for individual health insurance applications need to be submitted during November through December of the previous year in order to be covered for the following year.
If you missed this enrollment period, you would be uninsured for the following year. You would have to wait until the enrollment period opened up again to apply for insurance for the next year that followed.
The special enrollment this year gives uninsured individuals an opportunity to have coverage for 2021! You can apply between Feb 15 - May 15!
