Unfortunately, this is how most people deal with their Neuropathy.
Neuropathy affects over 20 million people in America.
They are regular people with families, hopes, dreams and goals trying to figure out a way out of a situation as they see this condition spread, worsen and eventually takes over every part of their life.
They research everything they can, scouring the internet, meeting with specialists and doctors of every kind, trying all sorts of medications, cremes, shoes, socks, exercises, a retail device they found online,
only to find that relief wears off and their symptoms get worse.
The worse part is the fear from not knowing what to expect, not knowing what to do, not understanding how, why or what can be done about it. This fear can be as paralyzing as the condition itself.
Unfortunately, Neuropathy is a poorly understood condition..by patients and by most doctors.

There are over 100 known causes of Neuropathy.
Examples include chemotherapy, diabetes, autoimmune disease, medications, hereditary disorders, etc. Idiopathic Neuropathy refers to types with unidentified cause.

'No Pain' does not mean 'No Problem'
When medications can no longer block pain, treatment plans change from 'pain management' to 'life preservation' through amputation as the body is no longer able to keep the tisue alive.

Neuropathy affects more than the nerves in the feet and hands.
As it becomes more severe, it affects the brain's cognition and short term memory, along with organs impairment such as sexual dysfunction, bladder control problems, gastrointestinal problems, losing the ability to walk, ulcers and amputation.
Many of these issues can be avoided if treatments
focused on reversing and
healing nerve damage.
The 5 stages of neuropathy
which one are you?

Stage 1
Symptoms like tingling, numbness or pain are very mild and will come and go. Sometimes, if they rub their feet or move around, the symptoms will disappear for a while.
Reversal care in this stage provides the best likelihood of returning completely back to normal. Patient typically responds faster.
Stage 2
The symptoms are more frequent and more severe. Patients may notice new types of symptoms such as burning, pins-and-needles or odd sensations like stepping on rocks or wearing socks when they are not.
The symptoms may spread higher up the limb, or affecting other body parts. Symptoms may not be too noticeable during the day, but stronger at night or when they rest for long periods of time.
Patients are typically prescribed anti-seizure drugs like gabapentin or lyrica at this stage, which decreases brain activity in order to slow the pain signaling response, but does nothing to slow or stop the progression of Neuropathy.
Reversal care responds very well for patients. Motor nerve damage that controls balance and coordination can be healed as long as the damage is less than two years. Patients have a high chance of returning to normal.
Stage 3
This is the most painful stage of Neuropathy. Patients may experience additional symptoms such as electric shock feeling, the sensation of "bugs crawling" and hypersensitivity.
As both the condition and the medications start to alter brain signaling, patients may also start to notice cognitive dysfunction such as short term memory loss, mood and behavioral changes or the inability to do basic tasks both physically and mentally.
Pain is so excruciating that higher dosages of pain meds, or stronger medication like morphine, may not completely block the pain.
This is where the patient's normal day to day activity is severely impacted and they may need to go on disability.
Changes in the patient's health due to medication side effects, lack of sleep, increase of stress hormones and inflammation, lack of exercise, mental distress and other factors creates a momentum for this condition to progress even faster than it had before.
Slowing and stopping the Neuropathy from progressing is the first, urgent goal of Reversal Care.
Pain relief will take a little longer than when treatment starts at Stage 1 and 2 due to the severity of the damage.
Pain relief and regaining most normal sensation is likely as long as treatment benefits are stronger than the rate of progression.
Stage 4
Patients may experience a "false alarm" because the pain starts to subside as numbness increases.
This is very dangerous and happens because the nerves are completely shutting down and can no longer register any sort of sensation. Patients are at high risk of falling, developing cuts that go unnoticed and do not heal, have very limited movement and may even start the amputation process of their toes or foot. They will most likely need a cane, walker or a wheelchair and will lose most of their independence.
Patients may be able to experience pain relief and regaining of some feeling, however results are not guaranteed.
According to patients who were in debilitating pain while taking high dosages of strong medication, our program had stronger pain relief than medication. Permanent nerve damage is likely, depending on Neuropathy type and severity.
Stage 5
Patients are in critical health. Other problems and complications greatly increase as well. Pain management treatments are usually completely ineffective at this point.
Spouses, children or caregivers may assist with activities such as using the washroom, showering, transportation and performing normal daily activity. The patient may be transferred to a nursing home if they become completely bedridden.
The goal of treatment is to stop the spread of tissue death by amputating the affected body part, from toes, to knees, and finally to the hip.
Patients may not be eligible for Reversal Care at this stage. However, patients may still benefit from treatments to decrease the risk of amputation and pain management.
